interactive site on elements and principles

Part of  this site has 2 local artists make an artwork as you
watch and listen to them speak what is on their mind while they
work.  This  helps you see and hear how they make their choices.

Artists use visual elements and principles like line, color and shape as tools to build works of art.

For each element and principle there are three sections on this web
site that give  you different ways of understanding them.

They are:
*    Watch an animated demonstration...it will draw you a picture using one of the elements such as lines

*    Find examples of the concept in works of art from museums-

*    Create your own composition-section of the site lets YOU make art designs

AN ACTIVITY FOR YOU.
your assigment. Make 2 pictures and answer 2 questions.

One of the principles of design is radial balance. It is a balance of
designs that are in circle. The designs come from the center of the
circle. See example above.  Go to microsoft word and make
a radial design on the computer using shapes and lines and color.

When you are done make the same drawing by hand on a piece of paper using
something to color it with.

Then answer the following questions about making the drawings.
1. Which drawing was more difficult to make the one by hand or computer?
2. Do you think drawing on the computer is real art or doesreal art have
to be made by hand?

Directions for creating a drawing in Word.

1. Open up a blank word document.
Click on View and click on toolbars and click on drawing.
2. Grab the toolbox called “autoshapes”. It has a group of shapes you click on
and you move the mouse over to the shape and click on it then click on the page
and it will pop up.
3. Select a “circle” from basic shapes
4. Draw your circle on the page making it fairly big. Your designs should come
from the center of the circle as seen in the example. If you want to add a shape but it does not go where you want it to, there is a button that looks like an incomplete circle with an arrow on it. Click the object you want to move and then click on the rotate button. Little green circles appear and you click on one green dot and move where you want it.

I will try to put a picture of the auto shape and the rotation
button in the sidebar to thr right.  If I can't the descriptions
should help you find then

5. When your drawing is complete go to file and save as a web page.
6. What you have drawn will be saved in a folder as a gif.

EX:
I call my file “balance”. It saves both a document called
“balance.html” and a folder called “balance_files”. The picture is
called img001.gif and is located in the folder called balance_files.
